ASDPreSchool Project Kicks Off to Transform Support for Autism in Early Childhood Education

The ASDPreSchool Project, a groundbreaking initiative designed to create inclusive educational environments for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in nurseries and kindergartens, has officially launched following a successful series of kick-off meetings. This innovative project unites five partner organizations from across Europe, sharing a mission to enhance early ASD intervention, provide specialized training for educators, and empower parents through advocacy and effective communication.

The project’s first milestone was the internal kick-off meeting, where key objectives, tasks, timelines, and budgets were established. Building on this foundation, the partner kick-off meeting was held in Athens, Greece, on January 23–24, 2025, marking the official start of the collaboration.

During the Athens meeting, partners formed a Quality Assurance team and a Project Steering Committee to ensure effective coordination and management throughout the project. Discussions focused on task allocation, setting deadlines, addressing potential challenges, and planning the next steps. A highlight of the meeting was a visit to the kindergarten at Deutsche Schule Athen, offering partners firsthand insights into best practices for inclusive education.

The ASDPreSchool Project addresses the urgent need for timely intervention for children with ASD in early childhood education. By equipping educators with tools and resources, the project aims to foster inclusive environments where every child can thrive. Key activities include:

  • Developing and delivering a specialized training program for educators to improve early ASD detection and intervention.
  • Creating awareness-raising toolkits and educational resources for early childhood professionals.
  • Piloting these resources in selected schools to refine strategies and ensure their effectiveness.
  • Designing a comprehensive roadmap for integrating the project’s tools and strategies into preschool settings across Europe.
  • Formulating policy recommendations to guide long-term practices and drive systemic change.
The project is a collaborative effort involving five dedicated organizations:
  • Fundación Mira’m de la Comunitat Valenciana (Spain)
  • Miedzynarodowe Przedszkole Edukacji Innowacyjnej “Tęczowy Świat Dziecka” (Poland)
  • Deutsche Schule Athen (Germany)
  • KMOP Social Action and Innovation Centre (Greece)
  • The Learning Edge Ventures Ltd (Cyprus), powered by CARDET

The kick-off meetings laid the groundwork for a collaborative journey that promises to transform early childhood education. By fostering inclusion, raising awareness, and empowering educators, the ASDPreSchool Project is poised to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with ASD and their families.

With the momentum of the kick-off events, the project team is now moving into the implementation phase, fully committed to achieving its goals.

Stay tuned as the ASDPreSchool Project progresses, paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for all children.
